I have some questions about moving out for the first time?

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Question by Sasha L: I have some questions about moving out for the first time?
Ok, right now I am only 16 but I am really hoping to move out and do it right when I am 18. So I realise these are a lot of questions, but if you can answer just one I would be more than happy!!

1. I want to buy a new car, like a hybrid, and I found a standard price for 1 of $ 21,500.00. Is it better to buy n full and aviod interest or to get financed and pay less immediately but more n the long run? Also, how much would someone expect to pay as insurance for that in Alberta, Canada?

2. I want to buy a house. How much does the average home cost? Is it better to buy a previously owned home or a new home. AND what kind of home loan/morgage would be best. Which is better, rent-to-own or a morgage? I want a house that has at least 5 bed, 2 bath, and a big yard!

3. Furnature I plan to buy myself and have delivered, after putting it on layaway.. Easy home allows you to make payments on furnature. Would it be wiser to make payments or buy in full?

4. Satalite vs. Cable? I don’t watch a lot of TV but there are certain channels I would go insane if I dd not have. they are few, but still I watch them. Is it better to get Satalite or Cable? is there any way I can make my bill smaller? How much should I be paying?

5. Internet access? What is best to get. I want internet for lots of things and it has to be fast. How much should I be paying?

6. House warming party. Is this practical? Is it a way of maybe getting a few little things? Or is it more work than good?

7. House insurance? I have to have it as far as I know because I want to be a foster parent. What do I expect to pay?

8. Saving money. What is the best way to do this. How much should I try and have saved up before I move? When should I start worrying about work? asap? this summer?

I’m sure I have forgotten so many things so anything you can tell me about personal experieces moving out that would be great! right now I am going to have maybe $ 10,000.00 if I moved out without getting any more money. HOWEVER I do expect to work. I tried to make myself a little list of how much money I could get if I went back to work next month (November) making $ 10/h and every 3 months increasing that by $ 1/h.
Each month I ‘made’ $ 2,080.00-$ 3,328.00. I made it so that I worked 8 hour shifts every day but wednesday. Then I concidered monthly expenses. every month I took out $ 100 for food, $ 100 for pet care, $ 40/birthday or aniversary, $ 200 for major holidays like x-mas, easter and halloween. $ 20 for ever ‘day’ I worked and ended up haveing my monthly expenses range $ 920-$ 1540.
After subtracting my expenses from my pay I ‘put’ the money in an account that had 5% interest compounded monthly. my opening balance each month was the last closing balance+my earnings-monthly expenses. Then interest was calculated and then I added that to my ‘opening balance’ to make my closing balance.
I did this from November 2008-June 2010 and had a final ‘balance’ of $ 49,007.73.
This is not including any other things like money coming to me, or possible expenses like the posibility of having to pay rent to my mom, or any money I already have.

Is this number realistic?

I know this was a very very long question but I ask for your cooperation and patients, please give real advise and Thanks in advance :)

(I am putting this question in this catagory because it is one of the largest I can think of and I respect your opinions)

I’m sorry, but this is highly unrealistic. I am assuming that you are going to school, so how can you possibly make that work that much and which person would even pay a 16yo that much money? Aside from that, you will not be allowed to work a full 40 hour work week until you are 18. What you want to do in the next two years at your age simply isn’t feasible. The average price of a house is well over 200,000. The house you want might be double or triple that price depending on the location.
Just do what I did; concentrate on your schoolwork more instead of working and get into a good college (a good distance from your parents) . I certainly don’t have all those grandiose things you described but I am living on my own. After you leave college you should start making enough money to eventually get all of those things, but right now, don’t worry about it. You are simply too young to accomplish all of that within 2 years. You should be having fun, not working your butt off =]

A question for Canadians – do you feel as if you have little to no disposable income?

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

question of Mama : A question for the Canadians – you feel as if you have little or no income ?
Since we’re paying so much tax to support social programs, “it means that the average Canadian would probably not much at the end of the day after paying all those taxes to the left, right? I do not feel that way, but I also have a full refund of income tax each year to get since I was 18, as write things like tuition fees and education loans, student loan credits, child amounts, day care needs and at-home business-offs. So, I’m the norm or the exception? Do people feel in our country as if they live paycheck to paycheck because of our “exorbitantly high tax rates?” Sorry to those people that think I am a “burden to society.” I work hard, just like my husband. I just feel privileged in a country that it can be difficult to get on your feet while you’re in your early 20′s are going to school, and recognized the establishment of a family and provides incentives for live help . That being said, I know that the time is coming soon, where my funds are running low, and I’ll have to start paying taxes in general, like everyone else. I do not plan to be a burden to society in any way. I have a career, like my husband, and since young, we do not know tend to take too much out of social programs at this point in our lives. I was just curious how others feel about to set tax rates Best Answer.

No, but I think we are lucky. Many of my friends live pay check to pay check. We also do not have much, not for a refund. They know what they are “the more you make them take it anymore.”

i have no money for food, what do i do?

Question by Clean air: i have no money for food, what do i do?
i am recently going through bankruptcy, and barely have any money. i just got a new job, and yesterday i had $ 345. i had to pay rent, $ 325, so now i only have $ 20. i got paid today from my new job, i got paid $ 750, i was depending on that money to get me through the week with grocery and transportation money. so i deposit the check to my bank (new bank account) and find out i cant withdraw it, it have a gay policy of needing 5 business days to clear. i cant withdraw a cent.

so now i have $ 20 exactly. i have no food in my fridge, and i have bus fares. i can either use that $ 20 to purchase bus fares for one week (it will cost $ 19 for 10 bus tickets, so it will be enough for 5 working days roundtrip) but if i do that, i will have absolutely no money for food and i will starve. or i could use the $ 20 for food, but then i cant get to work with no bus fares. cant walk, its 40mins away even by bus.

i have no friends and no family, nobody to lend me money. cant get payday loan because they require me to give them a postdated check and i dont have checks. i counted all the pennies in my penny jar, and i have $ 2.77 would be enough for a loaf of bread, but i need more, what do i do

Best answer:

Answer by Desperate
I’ve been in the same situation. I think you should definitely buy the bus fare ASAP before you start to get hungrier and your judgement gets blurred. Losing your job will be worse in the long run.

Drink as much water as you can to keep you going. When this happened to me, I bought a bottle of veg oil and had a few teaspoons a day to get me by. You have to be black or mexican to qualify for food stamps and I was denied due to being white. If you’ve developed a repoir with someone like the clerk at 7-11 you can ask if you can have some food and that you’ll pay him back next week.

Ok, so you’re a poor risk and you want an unsecured loan. Do you have any collateral you can put against it (a paid off car)? Your best choice is a credit union, but be prepared to be able to show that you can pay this loan off.

i have a student loan should i pay them off?

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Question by vixen: i have a student loan should i pay them off?
my student loan is $ 5998.56 and $ 1101.56 of it is interest alone. i have talked to someone at the collections agency about paying it back but all i can afford is $ 50/month which he tells me would just be covering the interest for that month (which is $ 1.40 a day) i’m wondering if it’s even worth paying anything towards this when i won’t even be touching the principal itself.

Best answer:

Answer by Dogpile344
The point is, you took on this debt and promised to pay it back. So even if you are only covering the interest, you are still being responsible and more importantly, protecting your credit rating. At some point you will be able to afford more than $ 50/month and able to start nibbling away at the principal. Welcome to the real world!

Q&A: I have bad credit..Payday loans messed up my bank account. I need money by Monday 5/14/07 help?

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Question by wordinc2000: I have bad credit..Payday loans messed up my bank account. I need money by Monday 5/14/07 help?
I need aloan to pay off my childrens tuition, pay my summer tuition, and reregister my girls for the fall. I have a great job, but had a family crisis( oldest daughter got Lukemia) and I had to pay for treatments til Medicare was approved. I had a few payday loans, payng on time, until one of them went in a day early and tried to get their entire balance. That was not the arrangement, and they messed up my account, which caused a trickle down effect on every other account that was ACHed from that account. Not to mention the bank bounce check fees. I am working on getting those items corrected but now I need $ 4000. Any idea where I can look…fast. Without this last payment, my daughters will not be able to take finals and they will have to repeat the entire grade. I can verify all I have said. Please no scam artist saying they can give me a loan at 3% knowing they are going to charge me for living in the US and you will never see the money. ( They are on report now)
Did you read the part about the bad credit. I need lenders almost like loan sharks that will lend to anyone, like me with bad, terrible credit. I am considered high risk. I need a lender who will give me a chance despite my credit score.
Let me express something. I have no family, part of my debt comes from the house that was forclosed on when I had my stroke, and I loss everything in it, and the payday loan thing. With that said, it is not that I run up debt, I live in a cheap 1 bedroom so my girls could go to that school, and yes I will take a semester off if I have to. The point is I still have to pay their tuition for this month and register them, or they will loose their spot. They are twins and they were born with problems so I have to keep them in this school or they will fail ( i’ve tried public it was like pre school they are 14.) Also as far as identity stealing, I work for the government agency that lost the hard drive with all the employee information. I asked for ideas not criticism if you read the post you will realize that I don’t live large or beyond my means, I just have to live and keep my kids alive ( cancer kid… hello) My sneakers are 4yrs. old please.
You see what I mean about the scam artist??? Jeff Norberts one of them.
