Question by Corey: Desperatly need help!! Involves my spine!!!?
Within the last year I’ve had lumbar surgery without fusion. The discs involved were L4/L5?( Not to sure but the ones at your ass bone ) The surgery was a major sucess. All was well, I was working out after 3 months, no more pain, feelin great and stupid sciatic nerve was finally relieved….So 8 months after the surgery my dad calls me and offers me a job working for a major co-orporation making big money so I can pay off my loans, buy a ring and start a family with my beautiful girlfriend. I’ve just finished my second week there ( which only involves bending and lots of heavy lifting ). I was advised after the surgeon released me, no bending, twisting, or heavy lifting. Anything could set it off. So about 2-3 days ago little shots of pain started again down my right side, in my thigh, behind my knee, in my buttocks, in my foot. These are all the same places as the pain from the initial ruptures. But the pain goes away after just a few seconds. What the hell do I do? If I quit and move home it’s 3 hours away, my dad’s rep is ruined, I look like an idiot and my girlfriend dropped out of college for nothing. I’m freaking out right now. The only positive is that when I wake up in the morning, there are no weird feelings, there is no pain, and I am able to function almost completely normally. Help me please what do I do? Is it possible to rupture a disc they have operated on and continue on with daily life without surgery?? Someone please help me!!!

Answer by ME!
Of course it’s possible to rupture a disk they’ve operated on. They didn’t make it bullet proof, they just made it better.
The way i see it, you have 2 options:
1) You can go to the doctor, have them do an evaluation, and come out with them saying you need X Y and Z done before you do anything else. That’s a best case scenario. Worst case is that you’re back is screwed, and they have to go back in and fix something, putting you in the worst predicament you can think of, and that you described already.
2) You can take a big tall glass of man-up, and make everyone happy but you.
I would recommend the first one, for you sake, and for health reasons, but it could possibly put the rest of your life in another direction.
The second option isn’t ideal, but everyone else stays happy.
